Comets, Coyotes lead girls volleyball standings

Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League play continued in full swing this week.

In girls varsity play Tuesday, the Raymond Comets blanked the Immanuel Christian Eagles 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-15), while the Catholic Central Cougars got past the Winston Churchill Griffins 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 25-19, 26-24).

The Cardston Cougars and Taber W.R. Myers Rebels went the full five sets as the Cougars eventually prevailed (22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-14, 19-17).

The Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride downed the Picture Butte Sugar Queens 3-1 (13-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-17) and the Chinook Coyotes got past the Taber St. Mary’s Auroras 3-2 (25-16, 13-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11).

On Monday, Cardston scored a 3-0 win over Kate Andrews (25-20, 25-11, 25-21).

In junior varsity girls play Kate Andrews beat Cardston 2-0 (25-21, 27-25), Raymond beat Immanuel Christian 2-1 (23-25, 25-10, 15-12), Winston Churchill edged Catholic Central 2-1 (25-15, 7-25, 15-10), Cardston downed W.R. Myers 2-1 (23-25, 25-12, 16-14) and Kate Andrews blanked Picture Butte (25-15, 25-13).

On Monday, Kate Andrews downed Cardston (25-21, 27-25).

The Comets and Coyotes lead the varsity girls division at 3-0. Raymond also leads the junior varsity division (3-0).

In senior boys play on Monday, the Coyotes shut out the Winston Churchill Bulldogs 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-20), while Immanuel Christian deflated the Picture Butte Sugar Kings 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-14).

Also on Monday, the Magrath Zeniths shut out the LCI Rams 3-0 ( 25-18, 25-18, 31-29).

In junior varsity boys play Monday Winston Churchill edged Chinook 2-1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-15) and Immanuel Christian beat Picture Butte 2-0 (25-9, 25-18).

Magrath got past LCI 2-1 (25-21, 18-25, 15-13).

Four teams remain undefeated in the senior boys division.

As of Tuesday, the Zeniths are 3-0, while Cardston, Catholic. Central and Kate Andrews are 2-0.

In the junior varsity boys division, the Zeniths lead at 3-0 and Cardston is 2-0.
