Hurricanes and Golden Hawks getting ready for the regular season

With the Alberta Elite Hockey League preseason complete, the Lethbdridge U15 Val Matteotti Golden Hawks, the U16 Headwater Hurricanes and the U18 midget Hurricanes now gear up for the regular season.

The Golden Hawks finished up their preseason at 0-5, losing 9-2 to the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers Saturday at the ATB Centre.

The Golden Hawks led 2-1 after the first period, but four goals in the second and third periods powered the Tigers to the win.

Hayden Iron Shirt scored both Lethbridge goals.

Brylin Noble got the start for the Golden Hawks, playing just over 30 minutes and stopping 19 of 22 shots.

Seth Bird-Goodstriker came on in relief, kicking aside 17 of 23 shots as the Tigers outshot the Golden Hawks 45-32.

The Golden Hawks open the regular season on the road Friday when they travel to Medicine Hat for a rematch with the Tigers at 7:45 p.m.

They head to Calgary Sunday to face the Calgary Flames (NWCAA).

The Golden Hawks ice their home opener Oct. 9 when they host the Calgary Northstars at 1:30 p.m. at the ATB East arena.

The Headwater Hurricanes were in action last Wednesday, losing a close 3-2 decision to Edge School to fall to 1-3 in the preseason.

The Canes complete their exhibition schedule this weekend with a home-and-home series with the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers.

The first game is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Logan Boulet Arena before heading to Medicine Hat Sunday for a 2:45 p.m. game.

Lethbridge starts the regular season Oct. 8 in Medicine Hat and has their season opener Oct. 10 when the Okotoks Oilers come calling to the Logan Boulet Arena at 11:45 a.m.

The midget AAA Hurricanes finished off their preseason the weekend before with a 4-3 win over the Airdrie CFR Bisons to go undefeated at 3-0-1.

The Canes open their season with four straight road games, beginning Saturday as they head to Okotoks to take on the Bow Mark Oilers. The Hurricanes are in Airdrie Sunday to face the Bisons.

The midget U18s host their home-opener Oct. 16 at 4:15 p.m. when the Calgary Northstars visit Nicholas Sheran.
