Catholic Central and Magrath varsity boys post volleyball wins

Week 2 of the Southern Alberta High School Volleyball League wrapped up with a pair of shutout wins on the varsity boys side.

The Catholic Central Cougars scored consecutive 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18 wins over the Winston Churchill Bulldogs Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Magrath Zeniths shut out the Coaldale Kate Andrews Pride 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-17).

In the junior varsity game between the Cougars and Bulldogs, the Cougars posted a 2-0 win (25-6, 25-19).

In the other junior varsity game Wednesday, the Chinook Coyotes edged the Picture Butte Sugar Kings in three sets (19-25, 25-18, 15-11).

In girls varsity play there were a trio of sweeps Wednesday night.

Catholic Central blanked the Picture Butte Sugar Queens 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-7), the Raymond Comets swept the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) and the Magrath Zeniths topped the LCI Clippers (25-22, 25-7, 25-14).

In other Wednesday varsity girls play, the Winston Churchill Griffins downed the Taber St. Mary’s Auroras (25-20, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20).

In girls junior varsity play, Catholic Central beat Picture Butte (25-21, 25-9), the Comets downed the Rebels (25-17, 25-13) and Magrath beat LCI (25-5, 25-13).
