Nash hopes to score big for revived KidSport Challenge

By Lethbridge Herald on October 2, 2021.

Ty Nash has restarted a Lethbridge Hurricanes tradition.

On Friday, the club and the Canes forward announced the third-year player has revived the KidSport Challenge and will personally donate $10.00 for every goal he scores during the 2021-22 Western Hockey League season to KidSport Lethbridge and Taber.

The KidSport Challenge was initiated by former Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong in the 2015-16 season.

He was joined by then-teammates Carter Folk and Ryley Lindgren and with help from fans, raised just over $6,500.

The initiative was renewed for the 2016-2017 season when Wong and Lindgren were joined by Giorgio Estephan when Folk was traded prior to the start of the season.

In its second year, and with the support of fans and corporate partners, the trio raised just over $13,000 for a total just shy of $20,000 over two seasons.

Nash said he’s been kicking around the idea of reviving the program for the past two years.

“The city of Lethbridge has given me so much being here for the last two years and I want to give back to the community,” the native of Scottsdale, Arizona said in a release. “After hearing about the idea two years ago, it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do. Knowing I can help give kids in our community the opportunity to play sports is something I am proud to be part of.

“I wanted to donate because sports have been a huge part of my life and has given me lots of great opportunities. I’ve met a lot of amazing people and made some great friendships that have helped me grow to be the person I am today. I want kids to be able to have that opportunity too. I am lucky and blessed that with the support from my parents and family I have been able to play hockey my whole life.”

Nash hopes Hurricanes fans will also chip in.

“KidSport is an incredible organization and I want to encourage Hurricanes fans to donate with me. Help me help kids play sports.”

The Hurricanes will match dollar for dollar what Nash will be donating.
