Kodiaks split in Calgary

After starting the weekend with losses, both the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s soccer teams ended with a win in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play.

On the women’s side, the Kodiaks were handed their first loss of the season following a 3-1 setback to the SAIT Trojans Friday, while the men’s team was edged 2-1 by SAIT.

But the Kodiaks returned to Calgary Sunday and both managed wins over the Ambrose Lions as the women’s team posted a 6-0 win and the men prevailed 7-0.

With the weekend split the Kodiaks women are 4-1 and in second in the ACAC South Division behind the Trojans (4-0).

The Kodiaks men are now 3-2 and in third place in the South Division, one point back of Red Deer (3-0-1) and three back of SAIT (4-0).

In the women’s game Sunday, the Kodiaks scored three goals in the first and second halves, while goaltender Kara Kamai turned aside the one shot she faced.

Kylie Bolton and Olivia DePasquale each scored twice for Lethbridge. Ashley Sazalski and Avery Mclean added singles for the Kodiaks.

DePasquale added two assists in the win as the Kodiaks put 17 shots on goal.

In the men’s game, Ben Knight lead the way with three goals and Kenzel Aarts-Roman, Shaun Boone, Easton Beaulieu and Austin Price scored once each.

Knight also had two assists and Price had three.

The Kodiaks men return home to the Servus Sports Centre Sunday when the Lions visit for a rematch at 2 p.m.

The Kodiaks women’s team hosts the University of Alberta – Augustana Vikings at 4 p.m.
