Flames come out blazing, down Canes to start Logan Boulet Memorial Tournament

The Lethbridge U16 Headwater Hurricanes have started the Logan Boulet Memorial Tournament on a losing note.

Kicking off the annual tournament with the first game of the weekend Friday afternoon at the ATB East Arena, the Canes fell 8-2 to the Calgary NW Flames.

The Flames opened up a 4-1 lead after the first period on their way to the win, adding another two in the second and third periods to earn the win.

Oakley Hill and Alex Westlund scored for Lethbridge.

The Hurricanes start today’s action when they face the St. Albert Flyers at 8 a.m. at the ATB West Arena.

The hosts are back in action at 4:15 p.m. when they take on the Wilcox Notre Dame Hounds.

The following game also take place today, Okotoks Oilers vs. Edmonton Canadian Athletic Club (8:15 a.m. ATB East), Calgary vs. Notre Dame (10:45 a.m. ATB West), Caronport Prairie Academy vs. Northern Alberta Xtreme (11 a.m. ATB East), Northern Alberta Xtreme vs. Okotoks (4 p.m. ATB West), Caronport Prairie Academy vs. Edmonton CAC (6:45 p.m. ATB West) and Calgary vs. St. Albert (7 p.m. ATB East).

The playoff round starts Sunday with the semifinals at 7:45 a.m. and 8 a.m. in both arenas.

At 10:15 a.m. in the ATB West Arena the seventh vs. eighth place game takes place at 10:30 a.m. and in the ATB East Centre the sixth and fifth place teams face off.

The finals go at 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the ATB East Arena.
