Canes gain draft picks as Miller heads back to Edmonton

By Lethbridge Herald on November 4, 2021.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes have acquired a pair of drafts picks in exchange for forward Cole Miller.
On Wednesday, the Canes announced they had traded Miller to his hometown Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2023 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2025.
Miller, 16, was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the first round and 16th overall in the 2020 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft.
In 11 games in the shortened 2020-21 season with the Hurricanes, Miller scored one goal in 11 games.
He was held pointless in four exhibition games this season.
In September, Miller returned to Edmonton for personal reasons.
“When we drafted Cole, our belief was that he was going to be a good player for many years. Although we still believe that will be the case, it will not be as a Hurricane. It unfortunately wasn’t a fit for Miller to be a part of our organization,” said Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt in a statement. “We have been so lucky and proud that Hurricanes players play with pride and with great respect for our organization and community. We will continue to strive for that and to always be better. We want to wish Cole all the best as he continues his hockey career somewhere else.”
The Hurricanes will look to snap a goal-less, two-game losing streak when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
The Canes are coming off 7-0 losses to the Winnipeg Ice and Oil Kings on Saturday and Tuesday and are 5-5-0-0 on the season, tied with the 4-5-1-1 Medicine Hat Tigers for third place in the Central Division.
Also on Wednesday, the CHL released its Week 5 rankings and the Ice, currently (12-1-0-0), have taken over the number one spot.
The London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League occupy the second spot.
Five WHL teams make up the top-eight spots with the Oil Kings (8-2-1-1), sitting third, the Kamloops Blazers (8-1-0-0) fifth, the Everett Silvertips (7-0-0-1) seventh and the Saskatoon Blades (8-2-1-0), eighth.
