Schenker commits to Kodiaks men’s basketball team

By Lethbridge Herald on November 10, 2021.

With their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season just around the corner, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball team has made an addition to its roster.

On Tuesday, the Kodiaks announced the commitment of Leon Schenker, a six-foot-four point guard from Vernon, B.C.

“We are extremely excited to have Leon in our program,” said Kodiaks head coach Ryan Heggie in a statement. “When he came on a recruiting visit, I was impressed with his decision making with the ball and his on-ball defence. Offensively he can attack from the wing and had good three-ball range. With our current depth at guard, Leon will need to learn to play a big role at multiple positions including minutes at power forward.”

Schenker said the Kodiaks’ strong culture made Lethbridge College his choice.

“It’s exciting to be part of a winning culture with established coaches and being in a positive environment,” says Schenker, who has enrolled the college’s exercise science program. “I want to bring a competitive edge and be a player that can have an impact on the game on both sides of the ball. I’m willing to help my team anyway possible to try and win games.”

The Kodiaks tip off their 2021-22 ACAC season Friday when they head to Red Deer to face the Kings.

The Kodiaks men’s and women’s teams will hold their home openers Sunday in a rematch against Red Deer at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.

The men’s game is at 3 p.m. with the women’s game to follow at 5 p.m.
