Kodiaks basketball teams post close wins over Broncos

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks court teams were at home and on the road in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference play Thursday.

The basketball teams took the hardwood at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium as they hosted the Olds Broncos, while the volleyball teams headed to Olds to try and tame the Broncos.

In basketball, the Kodiaks men improved to 4-1 with a close 78-73 win over the Broncos.

Leading the way for the Kodiaks was Orin Porter with 22 points, six steals and four assists, while Jack-Henry Fox-Grey added 13.

On the women’s side, the Kodiaks are also 4-1 thanks to a 74-70 decision over Olds as Kirsten Barwegen struck for a 20-point night to go along with nine rebounds.

Courtney Deemter chipped in with 12 points, three assists and four steals, while Jorja Gates came off the bench to drain 10 points.

Matlin Jacobs grabbed 11 rebounds in the winning cause.

The teams are in Olds Saturday for the rematch. The men’s game is at 6 p.m. and the women at 8 p.m.

Scores in the volleyball games were unavailable at press time.

The Kodiaks and Broncos serve it up in the rematch Saturday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium with the men’s game at 6 p.m. and the women at 8 p.m.
