Horns women’s basketball wins ninth straight

By Lethbridge Herald on February 12, 2022.

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team’s winning streak has hit nine games.

The Horns hung on to down the Calgary Dinos 70-67 in Canada West play Friday night in Calgary.

After opening the season with four straight losses, the Pronghorns have stayed out of the loss column since and on Friday they were led by Jessica Haenni’s 21-point outing. She also had three assists and four steals.

The win moves the Pronghorns to 9-4 and strengthens their hold on second place in the Canada West Central Division, behind the 9-1 Alberta Pandas.

Haily Weaver chipped in with 12 points and Millay Johnson came off the bench and hit for 10.

Lethbridge’s Isabel Rattai also came off the bench and just missed the double double with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Horns led 43-32 after the first half, but the Dinos battled back, outscoring Lethbridge 19-15 in the third quarter and 16-12 in the fourth quarter, falling just short of their comeback bid.

The Pronghorns shot 39.2 per cent from the field, 27.3 per cent from the three-point line and 54.5 per cent on free throws.

In men’s action, the 4-6 Pronghorns were facing the 9-3 Dinos.

A score was unavailable at press time.
