Pronghorns men’s basketball clinch third in Central Division

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s basketball team will finish the regular season at 8-8.
Playing two makeup games against the MacEwan Griffins, the Horns earned a 95-73 in Canada West play Friday afternoon in Edmonton.
With the win the Pronghorns clinched third place in the Central Division and a bye in the first round of the Canada West tournament.
Looking to complete the season series sweep of the Griffins, the Pronghorns opened with a 16-2 run to take control early. MacEwan cut the deficit back to eight points by the end of the opening 10 minutes.
The teams traded baskets throughout the majority of the second quarter, but a 16-9 run to close the half put the Pronghorns up 47-31 at the break.
Graduating player Chad Oviatt led the way with the double double with 18 points and 17 rebounds.
Jeff Rodehutskors chipped in with 17 points and Deng Dak added 11.
Alec Hillman posted nine points for the Horns.
The Pronghorns shot 44.7 from the field and 34.6 per cent from the three=point line. They also shot 69.2 per cent on free throws.
The University of Lethbridge will host half of the Canada West men’s basketball playoff tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Pronghorns will play the late game next Friday night in a single game elimination game. The opponent is still to be determined.
