By Lethbridge Herald on March 3, 2022.

It went a little longer than normal, but the Lethbridge U18 Hurricanes have grabbed an early lead in their second round Alberta Elite Hockey League series against the Calgary Buffaloes.
Canes forward Grady Martin scored 14:26 into the second overtime and goaltender Erick Roest made 41 saves as Lethbridge posted a 1-0 win in Game 1 of the teams’ best-of-three series Tuesday night in Calgary.
The teams battled through three scoreless regulation periods and one overtime period before Martin charged to the goal late in the second overtime to bang home the winner and key a celebration behind the Buffaloes goal.
Buffaloes goaltender Nicholas Jones stopped 36 of 37 shots as Calgary outshot Lethbridge 41-37.
Each team was 0-for-6 on the power play.
The win puts the Hurricanes in line to close out the series Friday night when Game 2 hits the ice at Nicholas Sheran Arena at 7:15 p.m.
If necessary, Game 3 goes back to Calgary Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The Hurricanes defeated the Okotoks Oilers in three games in the opening round.
Lethbridge was 21-12-5 in the regular season to place third in the South Division.
The Buffaloes placed four points ahead of the Canes in second place thanks to their 25-12-1 record.
