The Lethbridge Hurricanes bowed to the Swift Current Broncos 6-4 at the Enmax  Centre on Wednesday night.

“Yeah, I’m proud of how we battled back,” said Hurricanes defenceman Chase Pauls, who had two points on the night.

“But obviously it’s a playoff (like) game and we can’t start off giving up two goals right off the bat and  (a) slow start. So, we’ve got to figure that out and get ready for the next game.”

It was the Broncos that got on the board first, just 1:19 into the contest as Karson King scored his ninth of the season from Josh Davies.

The Broncos made it 2-0 1:29 later on Kayden Sadhra-Kang’s fourth tally of the season from Ty Hurley and Brady Birnie.

“We had to start winning battles and competing because they came out to compete and we didn’t and they took advantage of it,” said Pauls. “But once we came around we started to dominate them.”

Lethbridge cut the lead in half at the 5:51 mark of the second, as Yegor Klavdiev scored his 17th of the season to make the score 2-1, with the assists going to Logan McCutcheon and Justin Hall.

Pauls would blast his sixth of the season by Broncos’ goalie Isaac Poulter at 14:26 of the middle frame to tie the game up at two.

The Broncos would make it 4-2 less than a minute a part as Eric Van Impe would pot home his sixth of the season at 16:57 and Carter Stebbings notched his 10th of the season at 17:51 of the second period.

Corson Hopwo got the Hurricanes within one with less than a minute to go in the middle frame as he scored his 12th of the season.

‘Canes affiliate player Miguel Marques tied the game back up at 4 just 1:49 into the final period.

The Broncos pulled ahead at 5:34 of the third on a two-man advantage as Raphael Pelletier scored his 18th goal of the season.

Pelletier added an empty netter at 19:52 of the third to secure the victory for the Broncos.

The Hurricanes will begin a home-and-home with the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night, 7 p.m., at the EnmaxCentre.
