The Lethbridge Bulls were dominated all over the diamond on Thursday night at Spitz Stadium on route to an 8-3 loss to the Fort McMurray Giants and dropping their record to 1-4 on the season.

After two scoreless innings, it was the Giants who scored four runs in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead, before tacking on another two in the fifth and eighth inning respectively.

The Bulls could not give starting pitcher Javier De Alejandro, who threw six innings, any run support until the seventh inning where they scored all their runs.

“Yeah, kind of a frustrating game,” said Bulls coach Chance Wheatley.

“But got a bunch of weak hits … I thought Javy threw well, like I said, they kind of bled us to death there. Anyways, move on.”

Wheatley said,” It’s tough to play from behind all the time. So we need to give the pitchers an  lead early in the game coming up.”

The Bulls now will shift their attention to a four-game set with Edmonton, beginning tonight at Spitz Stadium with a 7: 05 p.m. first pitch.

“Yeah, like I said, just building off of Javy’s start,” he said, on what to build on heading into the weekend.

“I know the scoreboard didn’t show it but he gave us six strong innings there and pounding the zone . We’ll just build off of that and hopefully our bats will come alive a little earlier in the game.

De Alenjandro gave up 11 hits, 6 runs, 5 earned runs, one walk and struck out eight.

His counterpart, Sean Dunn, pitched 6 2/3 innings, while giving up five hits, allowing three runs and striking out five.

EDITORS NOTE: The Lethbridge Bulls record was incorrect in the story as it initially said 1-5 and should say 1-4.
