The Lethbridge Sport Council, in partnership with numerous local sport organizations, and thanks to grant funding from the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge, is offering a series of events to give people the opportunity to try sports that are new to them, or to brush up on some skills.

The first event, badminton, was held this earlier this month and had a great turnout.

We are pleased to see a great deal of support and interest in the newly formed Lethbridge Badminton Club, which will be starting regular programming in the fall.

There are five more events coming up, including  disc golf on June 15, archery on June 16, climbing on June 17 and horseshoes  on June 30. The golf was supposed to happen on Monday, but  will be rescheduled due to weather   All events are free to attend, and are suitable for families and individuals.  Those wanting to attend are asked to register in advance on the Lethbridge Sport Council website to secure their spot.

“We want people to find sports they love and participate for a lifetime. Several of the Give It A Try sports are considered by many as recreational activities so it’s a fantastic opportunity to get some coaching tips to up your game,” said Susan Eymann, Lethbridge Sport Council executive director

The inspiration for the Give It A Try events was the upcoming Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG), which will be held in a modified format this year, with regional events being held in different communities across Southern Alberta.  We wanted to give people a chance to try sports of the Games, so they might feel confident and competent to participate and have some fun, friendly competition.

Lethbridge will be hosting six events for the SASG including Indigenous Games (July 13th), horseshoes (July 14th), badminton (July 15th), golf (July 16th), climbing (July 17th), and sport photography (submission deadline July 18).  Additional events will be held in other communities, including pickleball, beach volleyball, 3 on 3 basketball, triathlon, disc golf, baseball, cribbage, swimming, track, and more.

Information regarding the Give It A Try events, as well as the Southern Alberta Summer Games Regional events can be found on our website, http://www.lethbridgesportcouncil.ca
