The Lethbridge College Kodiaks soccer teams were  looking for more out of their two games this weekend, but settled for a point each.

Both teams settled for ties against Olds College on Saturday at home and turned around on Sunday and got shutout by powerhouse SAIT in Calgary.

“You know what I thought our girls team actually played their best game of the season yesterday (Saturday) in the 1-1 (tie),” said head coach Sean Carey.

“We’re getting better and better with each game. We just came up against a very  structured Olds side and they had a game plan and they put it to task and we just couldn’t break it down.”

Megan Morrison got the goal for the Kodiaks at the 22:34 mark before Olds tied at 35:41 off the foot of Tiona Paton.

Carey knew SAIT was going to be the tough game.

“We had really good game against SAIT today,” he said.

“We played another strong game and give way a couple of I don’t want to say weak goals. The first goal that SAIT scored, the girl killed it in from 25 yards, which was a nice shot, and then a very weak penalty kick against us for the second one. But we rallied and we had some opportunities … but yeah, just couldn’t find the back of the net.”

SAIT won 2-0.

The men’s side saw a two-goal lead dissipate in the last 10 minutes and settled for a 2-2 tie against Olds on Saturday.

Brandon Francis and Ethan Meerkerk had the tallies for LC.

“At the end of the days for these guys, they’re a young group, and they haven’t played together at all,” said Carey.

“So this is another positive. They found a way to get  up a couple of goals and we just have learn how to put games away and they didn’t do that.”

LC loss 6-0 to SAIT on Sunday.

“It could have gone one of two ways and unfortunately on our end, it went the wrong way in terms of (letting in) six goals,” said Carey.

“We tried to play our way and could have put a very defensive structure  ahead against SAIT.They’re ranked in the top echelon of Canadian soccer and they had some players today that we just couldn’t handle.”
