The Lethbridge Hurricanes got back in the win column on Saturday night after defeating the Prince Albert Raiders 3-1 at the Enmax Centre.

It was redemption of sorts  for the Hurricanes after falling 3-0 to the Raiders last Wednesday night.

“We thought if we can get some bodies in front, hopefully we can score some goals,” said Hurricanes head coach Brent Kisio.

“He’s (Raiders goalie Tikhon Chaika) always played good against us. So he’s a good goaltender and we found the net tonight and that’s what we needed to do.”

Kisio felt the Hurricanes came back and played a strong game after being shutout in their previous two outings.

“I think we’re getting better and better and we’ve worked hard,” said Kisio.

“We’re not giving up a lot against which is real important and we’ve had a little bit of trouble scoring. But I thought our guys (did) bear down tonight and we got the goals we needed.”

Logan Wormald opened up the scoring for the Canes at 4:45 of the first period as he snapped his second goal of the season passed Chaika.

Raider captain Nolan Allan roofed a wrist shot from the top of the left face of circle to tie the game 57 seconds into the second period.

The Canes’ Miguel Marques beat Chaika low glove side for his first of the season at 10:52 to pull the home team ahead 2-1. Tyson Zimmer and Noah Chadwick drew the assists on the 16 year old’s marker.

Cole Shepard gave Lethbridge a 3-1 lead as he redirected a Chadwick point shot past Chaika for his second goal of the season at 18:19 of the middle frame.

“It was awesome obviously to get the win … It was a tough four (games) in five (nights) obviously,” said Marques.

“To get these two points is huge to push us up back in the standings and for us as a team we know that it was  a huge win, and we need to keep it rolling into Wednesday’s game against Winnipeg.”

Marques credits his linemates for making plays to get him the puck.

The Hurricanes will welcome the Winnipeg Ice to the Enmax Centre on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
