U18AAA Hurricanes go undefeated over weekend

The Lethbridge Hurricanes U18AAA team picked up four points on the weekend after two home ice wins.

The Canes beat the Calgary Royals 7-3 on Saturday and the Calgary Northstars 4-3 on Sunday.

“Yeah it’s always good to get four points,” said head coach Sean Gillam.

“We worked hard and did a lot of things. We’re starting to make that turn and we’re doing a lot of good things and it’s nice to get rewarded for it.”

Gillam has seen the whole team starting to buy into their system.

“It’s taking a while but I knew that was going to happen,” he said.

“We had growing pains off the start, but now we’re starting to put in closer to 60 minutes of play and the results are coming.”

In the Royals game, Calgary opened the scoring in the second period, but the Hurricanes scored the next four goals to take a 4-1 lead into the third period.

Caden Still, Chase Bambrick each had a goal and Carter Cunningham with two goals scored for Lethbridge in the middle frame.

The Canes got goals off the sticks of Cunningham, Josh Evaschesen and Maddox Mason in third period, while the Royals’ Nathan Behm and Kaiden Emond scored.

Bambrick, Kayson Christian, Aidyn Law and Dayton Tailfeathers scored in the win against the Northstars.

Calgary got scoring from Griffin Gidney, Austin Osiowy and Kanyon Schulte.

The Canes improved to 8-6-0-0 with wins and sit in fifth place in the South Division.

U15AAA

The Val Matteoti Golden Hawks dropped a pair of home games over the weekend.

The Okotoks Oilers clipped the Hawks 5-1 on Friday at Nicholas Sheran.

Ryker Klassen scored the lone Lethbridge goal in the loss.

Adam Halat led the way with two goals for the Oilers, while Braxton Alaric, Paxton Cabana and Cohen Spencer notched single tallies in the win.

Lethbridge was entrenched in a must closer game with the Red Deer Rebels on Sunday afternoon, but fell 5-3.

Parker Fleishauer ,Lincoln Eaves and Cohen Zasadny scored in the loss.

Barrett Newfield led the attack for the Rebels with two goals, while Nash Nicolay, Kohen Lodge and Easton Daneault scored one goal apiece in the win.

The Hawks record now sits at 3-6-1-2 and are eighth place in the South Division.

U17AAA

The Headwater Hurricanes U17AAA still remain winless in regulation this season as they dropped two games in Calgary over the weekend.

The Canes dropped a 6-1 game to the Calgary Bulls on Saturday.

Connor Chapman scored the lone goal in the loss.

Keiran Kelly scored two goals for the Bulls.

Trey Ogwal, Bryson Insinger, Ryder Mcaslan and Cooper Williams scored a goal each in the win.

The Canes bowed 6-2 to the Calgary Northstars the next day.

Landon Howg and Koby Urasaki scored for Lethbridge.

Noah Doucette notched the hat trick, Ashton Sledz had two goals and Oliver Weil rounded out the offence for the Northstars.

The Canes record is 0-8-1-1.
