Canes edge Wheat Kings

Tyson Laventure led the way the for the Lethbridge Hurricanes with two goals and an assist in a 4-3 road win against the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday night.

Laventure started the scoring at 3:29 of the first period  on the powerplay from Cole Shepard and Logan McCutcheon.

Brandon would get two powerplay goals back in the first period  to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second period on goals from Mason Ward at 13:31 and Nate Danielson at 14:17.

Jett Jones would get the Canes back on even terms at 5:08 of the second period on the powerplay from Laventure and Shepard.

McCutcheon scored his first of the season at 7:32 of the middle frame from Tyson Zimmer and Noah Chadwick.

It was at the 15-minute mark of the second period that Laventure scored his second powerplay goal of the game and fifth goal of the season from Logan Wormald and Chadwick.

Calder Anderson inched the Wheaties closer at 18:08 of the third period to make the game 4-3.

Harrison Meneghin kicked out 37 of 40 Wheat King Shots and Brandon’s Carson Bjarnason stopped 33 of 37 Canes shots.

Lethbridge went 2-for-5 and Brandon went 2-for-5 on the powerplay.

Both teams will battle again tonight in Brandon at 6 p.m.

Lethbridge’s record now sits at 13-10-0-1 on the season with the win.

The Canes have a record of 2-1 on the six-game road trip.
