Logan Wormald scored the Toque and Teddy Toss goal to help lift the Lethbridge Hurricanes over the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-3 on Friday night at the Enmax Centre.

The Tigers stunned the near-capacity crowd early on as Dru Krebs scored a goal into an empty net off of a centering pass at 12:17 of the first period to give the visitors the early lead.

Wormald sent the teddy bears and toques flying, as he broke in alone on  Tigers’ goalie Evan May off of a Miguel Marques feed from the boards and scroed to inject life back into the building at 13:32 of the opening frame.

“It felt good obviously,” said Wormald.

“I think we all had it in the back of our minds. So it’s obviously good to get the first goal out of the way.”

“It just felt good seeing the fans, all of our fans here , they’re so great,” said Wormald.

“It was good to see the bears come down.”

Wormald will remember the toss goal as, “A big one for sure. Yeah, it’s a good milestone.”

Cole Shepard also assisted on the Toque and Teddy Toss goal.

Marques pushed the Canes ahead 2-1 with his third of the year at 6:51 of the second. Wormald and Joe Arntsen drew the assists on Marques marker.

Tyson Zimmer extended the Canes lead by two goals at 14:02 of the middle frame with his ninth goal of the year.

Tyson Laventure stretched his point streak to seven games with an assist on Zimmer’s goal. Astashevich had the other assist.

The Tigers refused to go away quietly as they fought back to the tie the game at three with goals from Owen MacNeil and Brayden Boehm in the second.

Zimmer went down the left wing and fired a shot over the pad of May for his second of the night to give Lethbridge a 4-3 lead at 9:36 of the third period.

Jett Jones would seal the victory with an empty net goal with over a minute to go in the game.

Lethbridge improved their record to 17-11-0-1 with the win.

Harrison Meneghin kicked out 38-of-41 Tiger shots on the night.

Both teams did not score a powerplay goal.

The Hurricanes will be involved in their third teddy bear toss game this month tonight when they travel to Swift Current to face the Broncos at 6 p.m.
