Local volleyball teams heading to provincial championships

The local spots for high school volleyball provincials have been determined after zone championships over the weekend.

For  2A boys, Kate Andrews won the zone banner over Immanuel Christian, but both teams will be heading to provincials due to two berths for provincials being put in place.

The South Zone  2 ABronze went to FP Walshe.

Immanuel Christian’s 2A girls beat Vauxhall for the banner, however, with two provincial spots up for grabs in the , both teams will compete for a provincial title.

Bronze went to FP Walshe.

St. Mary’s beat Senator Gershaw in the 1A girls final but both will head to provincials.

Bronze went to Picture Butte.

St. Michael’s Pincher Creek ousted Picture Butte in the 1A boys final to earn a provincial berth.

The bronze medal went to St. Mary’s.

Winston Churchill earned one of two 3A berths after defeating Eagle Butte, who will be joining them, in the zone final.

Magrath will be the lone representative for 3A girls from the south at provincials this weekend.

LCI girls swept cross-town rival in Chinook 3-0  for the 4A South Zone banner and earned a berth in provincials.

Catholic Central took bronze.

The 4A boys provincial berth went to Medicine Hat High School after they defeated LCI in the final.

LCI boys got a wildcard berth and going in as the fifth seed.

Bronze went to Magrath.

Provincial championships are from Nov. 23-25 and more information can be found at asaa.ca.

In other high school-related sports, the LCI Rams football team were defeated 42-24 by the Foothills Falcons on Saturday in the Larry Wilson Division Tier I semi-final.
