Two talented local female high school basketball players were the recipients of a prestigious basketball award over the weekend through the Alberta Basketball’s Shooting Stars program.

LCI’s Mishynn Miller and Raymond’s Delaney Gibb shared the 2024 Miss Basketball Alberta Award.

Shooting Stars brass look for the most outstanding players in the province for this award through the recipient’s high school seasons.

Miller is a first time winner of the award and a third-time winner of a major Shooting Star award.

“I mean it was definitely a big surprise, and also an honour to be in the company of all those big names who are on that trophy before me and I’m just very thankful ,” said Miller.

Miller thought she showed her strengths throughout the school season.

“Especially in the rebounding aspect of things,” she said.

The Grade 11 star scored 25.1 points a night, had 37 minutes of court time per game , scored a double- double in every game, had an average of 18.5 rebounds a game, added 2.5 assists a game, recorded 3.9 steals and 2.1 blocks.

She led the LCI Clippers to a bronze medal finish at the 4A provincials this past season .

This is Gibb’s third time winning the award and is the first player to do so.

She is a three-time 4A provincial champ, has national team experience, has committed to BYU  and is considered a generational talent.

“I would say it’s just a small accolade in all the accomplishments I’ve had and just kind of another reminder that hard work pays offs,” said Gibb.

“But to also keep working hard and to keep trying to achieve greater things.”

Gibb said it was super cool, when asked about sharing the award with Miller.

“Mishynn is a great player,” said Gibb.

“So she definitely deserves this and so I think it’s also pretty cool just to have two girls from the south share it together. So I love to see her accomplish this and yeah it’s great.”
