Tier 2 soccer provincials being hosted in the city this weekend

Lethbridge is the host site for the Tier 2 Alberta Soccer Provincial Soccer Championships this weekend.
There are a total of 70 tier 2 teams for boys and girls divisions vying for a provincial championship this weekend.
“It’s a nice feather in the cap,” said Steve Dudas, Lethbridge Soccer Association executive director.
“It’s something we try to do every year. We try to host either indoor or outdoor or both if we can.”
There will be three Lethbridge teams competing including both boys and girls at the U13 level and a girls team at the U15 level.
“It’s showing the association’s growing (and) developing a little bit,” said Dudas.
“There was a part in there that yeah we were literally just going to Tier 3 (and) Tier 2 tournaments. Now we’re going to Tier 2 (and) Tier 1 provincials which is nice. The landscape (has) changed a little bit, but still it’s a nice compliment I guess to the program itself.”
Dudas said pretty competitive when it comes to the competition level.
“It’s still competitive and you still have those competitive kids that were just short of making Tier 1,” said Dudas.
Lethbridge Soccer Association has to incur costs with renting the fields and paying for them.
“Alberta Soccer takes care of the other things. We do get some money from Alberta Soccer,” said Dudas.
The Lethbridge teams’ parents do all the volunteering with doing field marshalling and setting everything up among other things.
Play begins today and runs through to Sunday with the finals.
Over 130 games will be played on 10 fields in the city.
