The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks men’s volleyball team are off to a perfect 6-0 start to their ACAC season but want to continue the growth mindset as matches continue along.

“We really approach it game by game,” said Greg Gibos, Kodiaks head coach.

“So right now every week is its new battle and presents a new thing, and I think we’ve done a really good job of progressing as a group from when we got here in September to where we’re at now and we’re just looking at that continuous growth. We’ve started to see that and we’re performing well on some of those major moments and in competition.”

Factors like coming in great shape have helped in early success.

“Athletes took a lot of priority in coming in the best shape that they could be, knowing that there’s a great opportunity here for us this year,” said Gibos.

“A lot of them did the work prior to coming here and it’s been 100 per cent buy-in. Whether it’s film sessions, whether it’s lifts, whether it’s preparing for a game, we don’t have a lot of bad days and I think that speaks a lot to the maturity of the group.”

Being resilient is what the Kodiaks are learning from each match so far.

“Whether it’s injuries, whether it’s maybe like a performance to start, we’ve always bounced back, and I don’t even like the term bounce back, I like the term evolve ,” said Gibos.

“Bouncing back just means you’re coming back the same. We’re actually getting better every chance we get pushed.”

“We’re ready for the moment, we’re patient and when the opportunity arrives, we’re just there, and we’ve taken the opportunity and just (run) with it,” said second-year Ben Dyck.

Dyck thinks it gives the team more confidence moving forward.

“So just keeping with that confidence our team has within each other is very important to helping us continue our winning streak here,” said Dyck.
