Calgary bull rider Nick Tetz successfully defended his title at the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown on Saturday night in front of sold-out crowd at VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
Tetz won his fifth consecutive Canada Cup Series event in Lethbridge after posting 85 points on night one on Friday followed by back-to-back 87.5 point rides on championship Saturday.
“Obviously (with) having previous success there, you have a lot of confidence,” said Tetz.
Tetz felt the confidence as well from the week leading up with training on his practice Bulls, his drop barrels and workouts.
“ I was able to just roll into that event and not really be too worried and just go out there and … trying to have fun,” said Tetz.
Tetz spoke about what the crowd was like.
“PBR Canada (have) done a great job with the production and everything like that to where it makes our job easy because all we gotta do is show up and do what we enjoy, and do it in front of a sold-out crowd that loves to watch … bull riding,” said Tetz.
Jake Gardner also had a perfect 3-for-3 performance and finished second in the event and earning 98 points, while Maple Creek’s Jared Parsonage came third with 84 points.
Franciso Costa came in fourth with 61.5 points and Brock Radford placed fifth with 50.5 points to round out the top 5.
Tetz’s 151 earned victory national points shot him up the standings from No.14 to No. 1 in the battle for the Championship, which brought along a $100,000 bonus and now has a six-point lead on Dakota Butter.
If Tetz were to win the Canada Championship, he would be the first rider to win in back-to-back seasons and tie Aaron Roy for the most with three.
