Alice Muriel McLaren (Wesselman)

April 20, 1932 – February 1, 2018

Alice was born in Coalhurst, AB. As a young girl, she lived with her family there, later moving to Lethbridge and then back to Coalhurst after marrying Tom McLaren in October 1952. While in Coalhurst, she worked at the Dominion grocery store, then the Auto-Matic Electric in Lethbridge and raised their two children Debbie and Larry.

In 1977 they moved to Camrose, owned and operated the Camrose and Slave Lake Cable Systems. Alice attended the Calvary Pentecostal Church now known as the CityLights Church. She was very passionate about her involvement in the church. Alice liked to garden and enjoyed her flowering plants. She accompanied Tom to many grandchildren’s birthdays, 4-H events and to the Kootneys on fishing trips.

She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her kind heart and generous nature will be remembered by many.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Thomas; brother Harry Wesselman; and her parents Charles and Lillian Wesselman. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Debbie (Larry) Manley; her son Larry (Terry); grandchildren Stephanie (Sheldon) Kropiniski, Heather (Dan) Adams, Lindsey (Arron) Koster, Natalie (Colin) Severson, Rikki (Shaun) Mulloy, Travis (Rhea) Csernyanszki; great-grandchildren Carson and Reece Kropiniski, River and Rome Koster, Jakob and Abby Mulloy, Roxanne and Vanessa Severson, and Mason, Daxton and Zoe Csernyanszki; brother Charles (Anne) Wesselman; and sisters Ruth (Don) Henry and Dorothy Vanbuuren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018 from the CityLights Church – 4920 – 48 Street Camrose, Alberta. Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018 in Archmount Cemetery – 2650 Westside Drive Lethbridge, Alberta.

Donald “Don” Mercer

1930 – 2018

Donald (Don) Mercer of Lethbridge, AB beloved husband of the late Margaret (Peggy) Mercer passed away peacefully on February 1, 2018 at the age of 87 years. The third of seven children Don grew up on the family dairy farm. Don was known for his love of farming, golfing, hunting, but most of all fishing.

Don was predeceased by his loving parents Ernie Sr & Marion Mercer, as well as his daughter Joanne, and Grandsons Wade Courtice & Lyle Madge. Don is survived by his sisters Della Katan, Audrey (Dale) Wilson & Myrna Olshaski; brothers Ernie (Kay) Mercer, Lloyd (Edna) Mercer & Clayton (Diane) Mercer. Don had three children with his first wife Francis: Donna-Marie, Gerald (Garry) & Joanne, and two step-children with his second wife Peggy: Neil & Dean Courtice. Don is also survived by his Grandchildren Roxann (Dave) Fontaine, DJ (Ryan) Murphy, Keith Madge & Tanya Madge; Great Grandchildren Brok Fontaine, Quinn Fontaine, Justin Marshall, Rylan Murphy, Ashton Murphy, Aisha Murphy, David Madge, Keauna Madge & Aidan Madge; as well as many nieces, nephews and their families.

Don grew up in the McNally area; he attended White school and worked on the family dairy. He was married and had children while working on the family farm. In 1956, Don moved his family to their own quarter section not far from the main dairy farm. Don was married to his second wife Peggy in 1972, and remained married for 24 years until she passed from MS. Don loved to farm, when he wasn’t farming he loved to golf , hunt and of course go to the coast to fish. At times he could be a bit stubborn and give you a hard time but this was his way of showing you he cared. At times he could be quite the jokester, but always in a good hearted way. Don sold his quarter section in his early 80’s and moved into town. He spent his last days at Good Samaritans Park Meadows where they took excellent care of him.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service to be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, February 10, 2018, at MARTIN BROTHERS FUNERAL CHAPELS, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB.

EDWARD HORAK SR., of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Wilma Horak, passed away peacefully at the St. Therese Villa on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the age of 86 years.

Mrs. Iris June Cowie, beloved wife of the late Melvin Floyd Cowie, passed away peacefully in Picture Butte Piyami Place on February 1, 2018 at the age of 92 years. Larry Lehto

1952 – 2018

“Uncle” Larry William Lehto of Picture Butte, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 2, 2018 at Piyami Place at the age of 65 years. Larry was born on July 7, 1952 to William (Bill) and Mary Lehto. He was raised North of Picture Butte where he spent his growing years working on the family farm, riding horse and attending school at the Barrhill school with his best friend Matt Jakober. He spent lots of time with aunts, uncles and cousins and was always sharing fond memories of those he loved. After his high school years Larry began trucking and in his later years, returned to full time farming and ranching with his nephew Ryan and Ryan’s wife Ashley. Larry was a proud member of the Elks for many years and he was loved and respected by all who knew him. He truly was, one of a kind! Larry is survived by his farming partner & nephew, Ryan (Ashley) Cleghorn; his mother, Mary Lehto; his sisters Diane (Russ) Johnson, Shirley (Kevin) Petty, Brenda (Gary) Cleghorn, and Sandra Moore; and his brother, Wayne Lehto; his best friend Matt (Kathy) Jakober; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Larry was predeceased by his father, William Lehto; his brother-in-law, Cam Moore; and his uncle, Paul Sauer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at THE ELKS HALL, 112 – 4 Street South, Picture Butte, AB. A private family Inurnment will be held at Bowville Cemetery at a later date. LEYS

Margaret (Maggie) Gladys Leys passed away Friday February 2, 2018 surrounded by her loved ones at the St. Michael’s Health Centre.

She was born in Pincher Creek on March 2, 1947 to John and Eileen Simpson. Maggie grew up in Pincher Creek and Lethbridge. In her last 30 years she lived in Fort Macleod. She is survived by her brother John (Pat) Simpson, nephews Cameron Simpson and Curtis Simpson, her Son Doug (Luana) Leys, grandson Jack Leys, her daughter Alivia (Ian) Bokvist granddaughter Mackenzie Bokvist and grandson Cullan Bokvist. She is predeceased by her parents. Maggie loved to spend time with her family, grandchildren, and friends. She enjoyed oil painting, cooking, gardening and listening to her favourite music. Maggie will be deeply and fondly missedand remembered by all her family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 on Friday February 9, 2018 at Eden’s Funeral Home – 2424, 5th Ave Fort Macleod (a viewing will be held one hour prior to the Funeral Service. Following the service a reception will be held at the Fort Macleod Legion – 159 23 St.

NITA JARVIE

Mrs. Nita Jarvie of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Morris Jarvie, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the age of 85 years.

As to Mom’s wishes a grave side service will be announced and held in Spring 2018.


PEDERSEN

EGON PEDERSEN, beloved husband of the late Louise Helene, passed away at the St. Michael’s Care Health Centre on February 4, 2018 at the age of 93 years.

He is lovingly remembered by his four children; Ken (Shirley) Pedersen, Tove (Doug) Mifflin, Lisbeth (Glynn) Wright and Ted Pedersen. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Gerda of Denmark, as well as numerous nieces and nephews also of Denmark.

Besides his wife Louise Helene, Egon was predeceased by his parents in Denmark, one brother and two sisters in Denmark, an infant granddaughter as well as a great-grandson in Ottawa.

Egon was born in Denmark on June 18, 1924. He and his family immigrated to Canada in 1957 and made a life for his family in various parts of Canada but most of the time residing in Lethbridge. Dad has told us that he is the first and only in his family to have lived over 90 years, an age which he was quite proud of.

The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Michael’s 2nd Floor Dementia Unit for the excellent care given to Dad in the latter part of his life. Words cannot sufficiently express our gratitude for all the kindnesses shown to Dad the past three years by all of the staff.
