Editor,
An open Letter to Premier Danielle Smith:
Before you even think of separating Alberta from Canada, which I believe is just a ploy to divert Albertans’ attention to the mess that you have created with the Health System, I suggest that you clean your house first.
Revise or drop the bills that are not necessary and work for the people of Alberta for a change, and not for your own benefit. Why don’t you call a referendum on your leadership?
When you took someone else’s seat in the Medicine Hat riding, were you worthy to run the province of Alberta?
I appreciate why the Indigenous leaders are opposing Bill 54 since they have lost their Treaty Rights as a Sovereign nation. Bill 50 that was introduced by the NDP should be amended and allow Indigenous people on their reserve to have a say in local elections.
What right have you to order our new Prime Minister Mark Carney? Why don’t you give him a chance to run the country properly without your help?
If you want unity between all the provinces and territories, you should forget what his predecessors did in Alberta that wasn’t in your favour and work with him to change things for the benefit of all.
I would recommend to our Premier Smith to elect an Indigenous person to run the province to avoid separating from Canada. This way everybody will get along.

Premier Smith is cleaning her own house, cleaning the mess the NDP created on multiple levels! If the NDP hadn’t forced failed harm reduction policies and Supervised Drug Consumption Sites on Albertans, increased the issues of the crisis exponentially, we would have more people to work in healthcare, EMS, fire and police because there would be less responses for drug related/crime issues!
How we forget that just several weeks before the Fort Mac fire the NDP cancelled water bomber contracts as well!
There is a healthcare crisis North America wide, Canada wide and you keep on thinking by spewing your NDP propaganda we are all going to believe everything you say! People are realizing you only know one thing, attack attack attack! You had no ideas how to bring change and the Premier is making every effort to make a healthcare system work in impossible times where there are staffing shortages across the spectrum!
And if you live on the reserve as an Indigenous person and do not pay taxes or live in a municipality, then you should not have the right to vote in the election, anymore than a farmer near that community should have a right to vote in that municipal election!
If that were the case then we should have the right to vote in the reserve near our city elections since we are directly impacted by those communities!
More Marxist, socialist spewing by NDP, which didn’t notice from the federal election that they are not liked!
yeah, sharing and compassion, and a fair standard of living wages and working conditions is fa suckas!
Well said.
Thanks for the good laugh. First, it was the Alberta PCs who did the exact opposite of the great things that Peter Lougheed did right for Alberta, that caused these problems Alberta has, before oil prices went in the gutter, in 2014. The UCP have shown they are no different.

Danielle Smith and the UCP are cleaning up nothing.

So Lethbridge residents should be able to vote in the Coaldale municipal election Sir?
Your letter demonstrates that you must spend more time talking about global issues in coffee shops than actually researching them! Nenshi is not the only issue contributing to the NDP’s decline in support, as the NDP slowly implodes!
smitty does not live in the hat, not even near it, but our system allows people to represent ridings far afoot. just another crack in our busted democracy.
Calgary Elbow, which had a UCP MLA, Doug Schweitzer, who resigned, before completing his term as an MLA, sat vacant for longer than the 6 month period that a vacant riding is supposed to sit. Danielle Smith wouldn’t allow a by-election there, and she also delays by-elections to happen in ridings which lack an MLA. It was only in the 2023 provincial election that Calgary Elbow got an MLA elected, which was an NDP MLA. Danielle Smith wouldn’t run in the riding of Calgary Elbow, because she knew she would have been defeated. Instead, she chose to run in the riding of Brooks Medicine Hat, where a UCP MLA, Michaela Frey was, and stepped down, without completing her term as an MLA, just so Danielle Smith could run there. Danielle Smith gave Michaela Frey a well paying, pointless position in return.
Actually, the support for the UCP and Danielle Smith is declining. Here’s some reasons why.

Only way Smith knows how to clean her own house is to hire friends into highly paid govt jobs, fire them when they screw up then give them a golden parachute and hire other friends to replace them. Rinse and repeat.
