Editor,
Scott Sakatch’s column talking about angry people (Aug. 13) was interesting. I think COVID shutting everyone in for almost two years continues to spill out residue with regard to loss, loneliness, lack of family celebrations etc.
Sometimes spouses or family members have health issues that take their toll on the family and very worrisome.
Climate change is also a huge concern and the question is what can be done? Fires, people having to run on short notice, storms and tornados and supercells and atmospheric rivers. Even the earth is angry!
I think people feel goverbments are not helping. for example, look how many people dont have a doctor. Sitting in the ER for hours when you are not well is a disgrace in Canada. Our medical system is not getting the help it needs fand people dont know where to turn for help.
There’s more: world leaders, stock market fears, the environment, even waiting on hold for tech issues that are never resolved. It’s all too much. People have lost respect and just lash out and are violent. No one takes a moment to think before they react anymore.
People dont know where to turn. Humans are not built for all the stuff we put up with each and every day.
Of course, we cant solve these world problems as individuals. Therefore, don’t listen to the news so much. Put down your devices, and change what you can.
Take daily walks in parks and neighbourhoods or go for a swim or aquajog or something.
Join a small social like- minded group. Read books that allow you to escape into interesting topics.
Learn something new – buy a harmonica! Listen to music every day. Start your day with uplifting music!
Get a pet. They give you love and purpose. They need you and you actually need them.
Volunteer, as this will keep you connected to others. Eat healthy. This is mandatory. Nutrition is important for us to function efficiently.
Breathe. Give and get hugs.
Be kind. Everyone is going through something as our world has changed.
Smile! No matter what. A smile uplifts others. And they may smile back and in turn it uplifts you.
Be thankful for what you have.
