Carney needs to stop pretending there will be a deal with Trump

By Lethbridge Herald on November 7, 2025.

Editor,

I wrote months ago about how Carney’s efforts would result in no deal and of course others believed he would get a deal. He did exactly what I suspected, which was to remove the counter-tariffs under the guise it was hurting Canadians, which I find somewhat amusing because he continues to warn of pain to come.

I don’t think he gets it yet. He pretends daily that a deal is imminent only to see it fall off the rails as Trump wakes up offended. For someone who identifies as not from the woke crowd, it seems Trump gets offended more than most of those he despises?

Carney’s latest backpedal has shown that he still is a Liberal first and a Canadian second. The apology for Captain Ontario’s advertisement was short sighted and revealed that when the “team” puts him in a bad light he is more than willing to identify the team by party allegiance. The day he apologized was the day Captain Ontario (who was a pretend Liberal) was identified as a Conservative!

“The team” finally had its last member dumped on the side of the road while the neophyte bows and kisses the ring!

There will be no deal and the renegotiation of CUSMA will likely be a reality show where Trump fires and rehires on a regular basis. Don’t get me wrong, Trump can do as he wishes (and does); its his right, he was democratically elected. I have no bones to pick with our Southern neighbours, they get to run their country the way they wish, period.  That also means we should run our country the way we wish.

I tend to look at things at face value. The U.S. insists they protect us, yet it’s the only nation that is threatening our sovereignty. The greatest threats to the U.S. real or imagined are China and Russia. In the event of an attack, does any reader actually believe that Canada will NOT be the radioactive debris field?

If we are to suffer great pain as Carney will have you believe, then let’s get on with it! Having the doctor stand beside you with a massive needle telling you from day to day that it’s really going to hurt prolongs the pain and psychologically damages the country. Jab us and get it over with! As for the U.S. ambassador- toss him!

I believe that Carney is the best leader we could have at this time considering the alternative is the leader of a party that’s falling apart. However, I also think Carney hasn’t been as tough with Trump as he should be considering the dictator down south has treated Canada so badly. We must dramatically reduce our dependence on the US and switch out trade priorities to more reliable and trustworthy countries. I think Carney is doing that but we need to see concrete results.

Fedup Conservative

While my American Relatives who have apposed what Trump is doing although they are Republicans have stated all along that he will never be allowed to getaway with it the people will never allow it, and the recent elections proved it yet these Reform Party fools like Dennis aren’t. smart enough to understand that Carney has proven time and time again he is a lot smarter and was likely waiting for the lawsuits to begin like my relatives knew they would. Dennis would rather get Canada sued by Trump instead that’s how stupid he is, isn’t
he ?
