Editor,
So Smith has already broken her pledge to hire 3,000 more teachers and 1,500 EAs. Here is a statement from the government’s own press release: ”Over the next three years, school boards will be provided with funding to hire 3,000 teachers and 1,500 new education assistants to support students with complex needs. These funds may also be allocated to additional student support through assessments for complex needs, occupational therapy, physiotherapy or speech-language pathology, and other in-the-classroom supports.”
So there really was no intention to actually hire 3,000 teachers or 1,500 EAs because at least some of the money can go elsewhere. And you wonder why teachers voted against the so-called “enhanced mediation”?

Smith doesn’t hire teachers and EA’s. School boards do and with the funding they are given the creativity and leeway to fund what their districts need. Called local management.
