It is with mixed feelings that I learned of the retirement of Scott Sakatch, the editor of the Lethbridge Herald. I am saddened that our community is losing an employee who dedicated his career to the news media industry, but I am also supportive of Scott’s decision to open a new door and embark on a different path. Like many loyal Herald employees, Scott has worked alongside countless colleagues over the years. Even with modern electronic technology and a smaller staff today, the Herald has persevered, thanks to the dedication of long-serving employees like Scott. It is comforting to know we can look forward to opening the paper while sitting in a recliner, sipping a beverage, and catching up on world events and, more importantly, the local events that are so carefully written and conveyed to the community by the little paper that has survived. I am sure Scott leaves a wealth of information for his replacement so that we, the readers, can continue to enjoy our local paper. Scott set high standards in his workplace, and we, the loyal readers, greatly benefited from those standards
