Climate action is needed now

By Letter to the Editor on November 19, 2020.

The federal government recently announced it may delay its climate action plan another year until 2021.
The Liberal government was elected in part because of a policy platform that included some meaningful actions to combat climate change. The Liberal party has made such promises in the past. None of Canada’s emissions reduction plans has ever been met, with Canadians simply admitting failure and setting less ambitious goals every time a deadline arrives. We are currently on course to miss our 2030 emissions reduction goal by at least 15 per cent.
The Liberal party has continually demonstrated that climate action is not a priority. Citizens continue to struggle to take personal action on climate in the face of high costs to retrofit houses and adopt energy-efficient transportation. Government economic support in Canada continues to skew to fossil fuels. Employment in the “green” economy, a fast-growing sector, is stunted compared to what it could be.
The famous characterization of Canada as being led by either Mr. Delay or Mr. Deny still holds true. The time for decisive action has come, and our government must stop prevaricating and take concrete steps to address the climate catastrophe, not in 2021, or 2022, or 2023, but right now.

Please do tell what exactly “concrete steps” would entail.
Perhaps more climate tax on people for keeping warm and driving to work?

Resolute

What a load of green propaganda masquerading as emotion. Poppycock.

Southern Albertan

We shall see how the Trudeau Liberal’s “Net-Zero Emissions Plan” being announced as we speak today, turns out. And, it appears that a USA Biden, more environmentally friendly Presidency, bodes well for Canada.

So taking money from people is going to slow down climate change? Well alrighty then! Let’s take money from people to mitigate Covid!

Fedup Conservative

Why do you think our oil executives wanted the Carbon Tax implemented to help them create new markets for their oil and why have you allowed these phoney conservatives to cheat Albertans out of $575 billion in oil royalties, $150 billion in taxes that Ralph Klein’s daughter Angie was so upset with her father about and why Ralph Klein’s father Phil and Angie tried to help us vote him out? Why haven’t you shown any concern for the $260 billion orphan well mess that I was involved with prior to Klein changing the regulations to benefit his rich friends.
Some of us think that senior farmers and ranchers who can’t sell their farmland because of these orphan wells should start taking financial action against those who allowed it to happen, what do you think?
