Phillips overstepped her position

By Letter to the Editor on March 27, 2021.

Editor:
I’m astonished at the audacity of Shannon Phillips. After reading her Facebook posting regarding a Standing Committee meeting, I cannot keep silent any longer.
Phillips is the Committee Chair of Public Accounts. Their mandate is to review the reports of the Auditor General of Alberta and the public accounts of the province. She badly over- stepped her position in the committee.
Firstly: It was unprecedented to call a meeting on a Friday morning of a long weekend for a meeting on the following Tuesday morning.
Meetings are scheduled during the last previous meeting.
Secondly: The Committee of Public Accounts does not have the mandate (authority?) to call a minster to question them regarding their decisions.
Their mandate is to review reports.
After reading what happened during a recent meeting, the UCP members had every right to adjourn the meeting.
Phillips is using this adjournment as a political manoeuvre.
The manner in which she speaks about the opposing MLA in her Facebook post is simply wrong.
She is personally insulting, using words like unctuous, self-abasing, pathetic, spineless.
If anyone dared to speak about her in that way, she would be shouting from rooftops!

When she speaks of the UCP, she can’t help it if she’s speaking the truth!

Where were you when the NDP were in power? I remember many statements from the opposition equally filled with vitriol. Not that it’s right but that’s modern politics.

Wow. Short notice to a meeting. Could things get any worse?

Next thing we will be told are that the police had every right to investigate her using illegal surveillance and conducting unsanctioned searches because of her glaring “audacity”.

Shannon writes her own rules,, previous procedure doesn’t matter. How dare you question her or her boot lickers.
