We need to stand up to bullies

By Letter to the Editor on April 3, 2021.

Editor: I read the very informative letter by Carel Macleod on Saturday, March 27. It reveals how Shannon Phillips tried to influence public opinion by maneuvering the UCP members of the Committee of Public Accounts to adjourn the meeting she deliberately called at the last minute before long weekend. This seemingly to discredit fellow committee members.
I for one am getting tiered of being manipulated by false information and abusive behaviour that’s spread on Facebook.
If the new recall legislation allows for the recall of an MLA for spreading false information that will be an opportunity to recall Phillips. This might be the first time to try this.
Hopefully there are those out there who know how to start a petition and get this rolling. It’s time to put Phillips and her accusations to the test and force the truth.
I would also suggest users of Facebook petition the company to have Phillips account revoked.
We cannot just sit back and wait for the next elections and let this MLA off the hook. We need to hold these politicians accountable for what they burp on social media. Phillips may indeed think its OK to use abusive language as her targets are male. The fact is no matter your gender this is wrong.
We need to stand up to these bullies. No wonder young people get so disheartened by politics when they see public servants acting this way.

?????????? given all the sleaze and cronyism and ever increasing secrecy in politics in this country, and given the serious erosion of democracy and public privacy and the consequent invasion of our fundamental freedoms, this is what a ucp gets up in arms over? unreal. i may, however, have missed your letter calling for as much of a stink over cons party, ucp, and kenney illegal activities, which have been under rcmp “investigation” for a while already.
