How bad can our healthcare system become? Doctors are leaving Alberta in droves. It is so bad that thousands of people have no family doctor. Luckily I do have one but have to wait for two months+ to get an appointment. Will I have recovered or will I have died in the meantime?
Last week I was forced to call 911 for an ambulance for my husband (86 years old with heart problems). It is beyond belief that when I called I was put on hold as there were no available operators. I was told numerous times in multiple languages to hold. This is an emergency service and I had a genuine emergency. Fortunately I live in Pincher Creek where our emergency services and hospital are excellent but the centralized system negates this if they cannot deal with emergency calls in an efficient manner.
The UCP government are hellbent on destroying a perfectly good healthcare system which, although had its faults, worked well. Privatization is their aim and if they can destroy the system as it was they will contend that it didn’t work. Who wants healthcare as it is in USA (apart from the monied UCP)?
How many people have to die before the system is fixed? Apparently the UCP doesn’t care.

Kathleen has nailed it. It’s a well known fact that Reformers are hellbent on forcing Albertans into a private for profit American Style Health care System. Janice McLellan was hired from the NDP in Saskatchewan to do just that. She was credited with closing 52 rural hospitals and getting the NDP defeated by the Brad Wall conservatives. She They also want a privatized Education System also and they don’t care who gets hurt in the process. In fact it got Danielle Smith fired as a Trustee from the Calgary Board of Education by the Conservative government of the day for trying in push it on the Board Members and creating a nightmare for all of them.
As my retired doctor friends have said for years. Canadian trained doctors and nurses are well respected and can work where ever they want to. When I helped nine doctors and at least two dozen nurses relocate out of this province when Ralph Klein was playing this game most went to the U.S. but some went to B.C.
Blah blah. Like what we have done for forty years works. Don’t be a martyr Fed UP. The world has changed.
Fed up with your dribble. Get your spewing straight. There was never a Janice McLellan – NDP in Saskatchewan. And while you’re at it, maybe get in touch with Premier Horgan’s situation in B.C. re the Doctor situation.
Agreed. No wonder decided voters in Alberta are favouring the NDP.
