We haven’t learned much when we want a bigger army

A recent Herald poll asked the question “Should Canada invest more in its military given world events?” The conclusion published in the June 10th edition of the paper was 80 per cent Yes and 20 per cent No.
So, eight out of 10 who responded have no trouble adding to an already outrageous military budget dropping more into the sordid bucket, millions undoubtedly used to refine the way humans kill those they disagree with. Horrible!
What more could we conclude;: armies are trained to kill, not negotiate, that is (was) the job we expected of our politicians, which sadly most fail at doing.
Near the eve Canadians celebrate the joyous day of the year we stage parades throwing candy to happy kids, the rest of us championing/cheering all things Canadian, I am disappointed to no end to learn that 80 per cent of my fellow Canadians choose to dedicate more of their diminishing tax dollars to train other Canadians to kill those in foreign lands, our politicians have been unsuccessful in extending a hand to in friendship.
We apparently haven’t learned much from history knowing that the path to peace was rarely, if ever, paved through controlling, maiming or killing, those we disagree(d) with!

Get your head out of the, sand! We either maintain a viable military, or ultimately be invaded and taken by the nut-case monsters from the likes of Russia.
For example, Russia wants, and I believe will ultimately take, Canada’s north.

WOW . . .OH BOY!!!!! . . . WOW . . . I am almost speechless from this unknowledgeable rant that would only have to be from someone that has a complete understanding of what it takes to remain sovereign and what it takes to keep the freedoms that we enjoy right now!
While the opioid crisis is killing over 4,000 Canadians each year and costing Canadian taxpayers billions, that is right billions each year, you have chosen to defund our military at a time the China is preparing for world domination, Russia is threatening to move on Europe and Iran is testing ICBM’s and although not close in nuclear refinement to arm those missiles with nuclear tips they do have the refinement for smaller nuclear bombs, with plans to remove all of us ‘infidels from the planet.
You should quit smoking all that pot and eating all those mushrooms, come back to reality and see what is really happening in this world!
Or, would you prefer living under the rule of China or Russia? Most of the Russian Oligarchs in the last couple of decades have been Putin’s ex-KGB pals, who are very active in the Russian mafia, where their billions came from. When the former Yugoslavia split, the Russian mafia was there taking over land, utilities and cell phone providers.
Our Canadian military can stand proudly, having trained the fierce and dedicated warriors that are on the front lines in Ukraine, defending their country to the very end!
Statements like yours should you have no clue how the world works!
Our military has had to suffer with junk for decades prior to 2002, under the Liberal rule and then they were sent into a WAR in Afghanistan with dune buggies called jeeps with no armour, no air support, no heavy armour only light armoured vehicles and with camou uniforms for forest and plains, not sandy and clear terrains, but they did their job, adapting and using what they had to complete their mission, while losing brothers and sisters due to lack of suitable kit!
One of the few things I applaud PM Harper for was that he fast tracked MRAP’s/Nyala, got leopard tanks, Chinook helicopters and other suitable kit that was needed in that WAR! It was shameful that we would send our troops into battle with that garbage!
The Arctic was ignored by the Liberals and we almost lost it when other countries stood in line to make claim to it! That is why we needed ships to patrol the north and more activity to keep the Arctic Canada.
Our CF-18’s are falling apart and need to be replaced now!
The world is on the brink of WW III, technically, according to definition we are already in a world war and you want to defund the military!
Did the Chinese pay you to say spread those statements?
Canadians have a long, proud history of peacekeeping, but there is no such thing anymore, because peacekeepers are not given the respect they used to get and are kidnapped as hostages, shot and killed by snipers, etc., so it has to be peacemaking!

an insight into war and the people sent to die for the uppermost privileged can be gained by watching “das boot.” people the world over want pretty much the same things: peace, love, food, water, shelter, and creative outlets, and the best of us further seek opportunities to grow our hearts through service to others.

However on this one Johnny is right but has he noticed it’s a Liberal Trudeau who is smart enough to want to protect us and create jobs while this pretend Conservative ,Reformer, Pierre Poilievre wants to destroy jobs and force us into a lot more privatization, while he watches his pal Jason Kenney screw Albertans out of our royalties and tax wealth. He was selling Reform Party Memberships for Kenney in Calgary when he was 16 years old.
Haven’t you seen what Russia is doing to the Ukrainian people. Have you forgotten we boarder on Russia and our oil industry would be a huge target and Russia is already bad mouthing Canada for helping defend the Ukrainian people. Besides it also creates jobs.
