A mistake was made and rectified

By Letter to the Editor on March 6, 2021.

Editor:
I would like to use this opportunity to clarify a letter to the editor published on March 3, 2021 in the Lethbridge Herald.
It rightfully points out I made a mistake of not removing myself from a Finance Committee when the issue of administrative compensation was being voted on.
When I realized I made the error in late November, I made a point to have the motion on the operating budget be separated and divided (December 14, 2020 Council Meeting).
I asked that administrative salary be voted on separately so I could I remove myself from the vote, in which I did.
Did I make an error? Yes.
Did I attempt to rectify? Yes.
Ryan Parker
Lethbridge City Councillor

I’m thinking that there should be a limit of three terms in Council.

indeed, and a limit as to how much money one can rake in as a bonus to being on council. tell you what, rp, i will vote for you, and anyone else running, that absolutely ensures regular audits, beginning within one year of the election.

Recent poll shows 97% of us want new blood in Council.
Mr. Parker it’s time you’ve moved on make room for someone new. It would be very depressing for us to see your name on the ballot.

Thanks for your letter Ryan. I remember when I first came to Lethbridge in 1997 and I didn’t have a clue whom to vote for in the election. My sister said Joe Mauro was a good guy so I ticked that box off. The other vote was for you for one reason. I saw a young guy with several supporters standing out on Mayor Magrath Drive waving signs. I said to myself; “Now there is someone who will work hard and is willing to stand out from the same old, same old.” If my memory serves me right, you also took some flak from other folks on council at the time because they thought it was “unprofessional”. Perhaps they were just to lazy to put in the effort themselves. All the best.

A mistake is not looking both ways before crossing the street. Forgetting that a vote can affect your personal household income is not a “mistake” because no one “forgets” where their spouse works, and where there paycheck comes from.
