Three minutes is all it takes to object to a city program

By Letter to the Editor on April 17, 2021.

Editor:
Waste and recycling front pick-up – apparently you like the idea??
Three minutes is all it takes to call 311 and let them know your objection to a City program.
LTC heard countless objections from citizens to front waste collection, so we took action to research and open a dialogue with the City on your behalf. Imagine my surprise to hear Lethbridge Waste and Recycling Services Manager, Mr. Sanchez, state that only a small and insignificant (3-5%) of our citizenry are voicing objection to the movement of their trash and recycling pickup from alleys to street fronts!!
Several affected neighbourhoods have contacted us to share all of their unsuccessful attempts to stop front street pick-up. Apparently, those objections are not counted at City Hall.
Myself and my LTC committee have been taking up your cause (at least we thought it was your cause), and have spent countless hours fighting for YOU! Now we need your help. Pick up the phone, and encourage your neighbours to do the same, unless you want to accept front pick-up as yet another new normal.
Take 3 minutes to dial 311 and state your opinion. Those stats will let us know if we should or should not continue this fight.

Ive tried calling 311 previously and my comments clearly fall on deaf ears. City Hall bureaucrats have their minds made up on this matter, which is clearly a personal agenda for them.
A reversal of this front trash rule would mean a failure due to bad decision making by a City bureaucrat, and that wouldn’t look good for them. So don’t expect a change.

Great letter Gwen, I would like to tell you we were second on the list in Ridgewood for change we directed our complaint to a manager that issued the letter we were told to read the bylaw so the bylaw states the “Engineer” Mr.Hawkins controls the bylaw , we took the protest to him with e-mails ,phone calls etc, basically told read the bylaw , we went to City Manager of the day referred back to Engineer. went to our City Councillors told we would lose.

Its why you have to wait to get rid of these existing councillors. Once a new council is in place they may listen to residents. The group we have now know exactly what is good for Lethbridge and its either their way or the Highway!

Thanks Gwen, I will make the call again. I called last June when we gof the 2 week notice that it was moving to front and like Snowman was told to read the bylaw. I don’t think I was counted as the person on the other end of the line brushed me off. I have a 20 foot wide paved alley and no reason they can’t go down it.
