COVID chart raises questions

By Letter to the Editor on September 18, 2021.

Editor:
For the past six weeks your COVID-19 daily update has shown the number of cases in Lethbridge increase dramatically, but the chart has always shown that no one is in the hospital, or the ICU.
On Monday night Sept. 13 I asked Mayor Spearman in a public Facebook message if this was true.
“No.  The ICU’s are full and there are 82 in the hospital in the South Zone.”

You can check the numbers regularly on this website: https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-alberta-data.aspx. Updates are provided everyday for the previous day except on weekends.

If you want to follow the data on the COVID-19 variants, here is a link to that website: https://www.alberta.ca/stats/covid-19-alberta-statistics.htm#variants-of-concern.

Also, check out Vernon’s Southern Alberta Weather & Emergency Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/518829574911077/. It’s excellent!

As of Sept. 16 there were 88 COVID-19 patients in hospital in the South Zone, 22 of whom were in ICU. If I’m not mistaken that is very close to the total number of ICU beds in our region. Maybe someone could fact-check that.
