It didn’t take long for our sort of freshly minted federal government to vigorously renew its attacks on the oil industry and therefore Alberta. As an Albertan, I get the message. Trudeau/Singh incorporated don’t want Alberta to remain in Canada. Destroying the oil industry is official federal policy. Devastating the Alberta economy and the well being of its citizens is just a bit of collateral damage in the noble and urgent quest to save the world.
Of course, if the oil industry were located in Quebec, the regulations would disappear, pipelines would flourish and government subsidies and support for the oil industry would be the cornerstone of federal government energy policy. If anyone should think this an exaggeration, I have a very prosperous gopher ranch for sale and I’ll let you have it at a real discount.

Great letter Robin!!! And it cuts right to the TRUTH!
If the oil industry was located in central Canada we would see a regulation-Houdini-vanishing act! But since Alberta has the lions share of it we are a target in waiting for the progressive Trudeau-Singh anti-fossil-fuel onslaught!
Always thought of myself as a Canadian first but as our industry gets systematically gutted, Alberta independence is looking more attractive all the time!
Nonsense.
This: “The surprising truth about the oil and gas sectors’ position on a carbon tax. The industry responsible for the bulk of greenhouse gas emissions is publicly in favor of a tax on carbon.”

And, not to forget, the Conservatives first came up with the idea of carbon pricing. This:
“Carbon Tax and Conservatives. Roots of carbon pricing.”

I would be interested in hearing what you think about Danielle Smith’s chance of winning in Southern Alberta. This is one dangerous lady in our minds. Her only mandate as leader of the Wildrose Party was privatize health care and education systems.
More:
“Jason Kenney’s relationship with carbon taxes. It’s complicated. The UCP leader wants to bring back a PC-era law charging large emitters: What would that look like?”

Speculation not facts, if…if..if…
Alberta is a great province with a great standard of living.
Oh Canada!!!
Boy have you nailed it. These stupid seniors who are allowing themselves to be treated like Village Idiots had better wake up and realize what these Reformers want to do to them.
It’s good the letter writer acknowledged that we will not persist as a species if we continue to burn fossil fuels. It’s apparent that Alberta will have to become more than an oil producer. What would be happening in Quebec if it was floating in oil would likely be the same as what is happening in Alberta. Maybe we should try to do something more positive for ourselves and our future than limply lying clutching our hair and whinging about Quebec.
BULL!! Has the government gutted the car manufacturing industry in Ontario like its done to our fossil fuel industry here? I bet not!!! If Quebec and Ontario was a-wash in energy like here most of us born-and-bred Albertans know a vastly different play-book would emerge!
