Teen donating money for new cat ranch home due to volunteer rules

By Lethbridge Herald on August 13, 2022.

Editor:

My name is Rowan and I have volunteered at Last Chance Cat Ranch as often as I could. The city’s choice to put a limit on the number of volunteers has stoppedmy chances of going.

I am 14 years old which means I need a parent with me. We have only done the sanctuary before. I adore the LCCR and even though I cannot volunteer, I wished I could help out so I have $400 to donate towards a new place for LCCR.

I can’t wait to see all the cats again. Thank you to everyone who is working so hard for these cats and for providing a better life for them.

Right on!

so very impressive. youth today seem to have a good leg up on predecessors when it comes to compassion, empathy and service.
the speck that has created so much grief for those that choose to care – and the city, that not only went along with the speck, but further placed limits on volunteerism (unreal!) – is quite the contrast to what true love and legacy are all about.

porcupinequill

Yes, continue to criticize the city and anyone else who supports the cat ranch moving. That has done very well for the organization up to this point. Good job, great.

h2ofield

Sarcasm isn’t your strong suit.

I’ve tried reasoning with Biff in the past. Unfortunately, it was a waste of time. At this point it’s better just to point out how she’s actually part of the problem in hopes that she makes changes to her approach in the future.

biff

you have not been reasonable – you have frequently made mention of an accidental fire that started with a space heater. space heaters have started many a fire. you have in effect placed blame for that fire on the cats. kind of silly. the cats are each indoors and are otherwise confined to the property. the lccr has been a refuge for cats and has provided a decent home for so many of the cats that our city has otherwise been unable to care for. most of the homeless cat issues in lethbridge are due to ignorance, cruelty, neglect, and even to landlords that will not permit a cat or two.
people, such as yourself, do not seem able to see past themselves. you think you have provided a service to your neighbourhood, to whatever, but what you have done is to compromise an already difficult situation in our city. i stand by my call – you are a speck.

porcupinequill

I’ve never actually put blame on the cats for a fire. My understanding is the fire was an accident and that’s the whole point, accidents happen so had this facility been ran somewhere it was appropriately zoned for (not in a house) the impact of that fire would have been much less due to a fire suppression system and the type of material used for construction being less combustible.
But, overall, you’ve demonstrated a complete lack of rationalism in understanding why the fire is the beginning of many points as why they need to move. So until supporters quit with the irrational thought process and unprompted name calling, you can point the finger in the mirror when this organization has trouble finding the external support it needs.

Bless your heart, young man!

*Please note that voting down my my comment in this case means you’re P.O.S.
You can live with that.

Name calling and intimidation is what worked in the past for this organization, but that’s not the case anymore. So although you’re upset, it’s important to move on from that mentality otherwise even more people are likely to be repelled and that will only make it harder to achieve the end goal of finding a new location.

h2ofield

Hey, my initial comment to the young man was to the way he carries himself, not the cause. Know the difference. Anyone who turns that into something negative is a straight up P.O.S.

porcupinequill

Consider me the voice of reason. I’m trying to explain that name calling for any reason is going to lower the overall support because the city is likely to keep viewing this organization as “child like” if they resort to school yard bully tactics anytime something doesn’t go their way.

biff

you have done so very well to create an issue where one did not really exist. and, at a time when the city is unable to do near as much as the homeless cat situation requires. many of the cats that have been rescued in our city were victims of neglect, abuse, and torture. you have attacked good people, and at a most vulnerable time. as a heart, you are a speck. as a piece of turd you are enormous.

porcupinequill

No one was attacked except for everyone the supporters went after when the organization played the victim card despite being the ones who broke the law.
It’s your decision to continue with the name calling and wonder why there’s a lack of external support.
I truly do wish you and this organization the best of luck moving forward.

nice – hide behind a law that really is subjective. when weighing what amounts to a black and white application of that law against the usefulness and decency that comes with the lccr, keeping the latter in place and without the stupid and ignorant limits on volunteerism is the humane way to go. people like you, that would hide behind a poor application of a law so as to justify your nastiness, your dislike or hate of cats, your lack of compassion and empathy…is revolting. at the very least, the lccr could have been far more time to relocate, and, could have been provided with fair and reasonable public assistance so as to be able to move.
in the end, this is really a human problem, not a cat problem: this problem was created not by the decent people of the likes that support the lccr and other caring animal agencies, but by ignorant, cruel and indifferent oafs that did not spay/neuter, were neglectful, and/or simply ditched their animal. it is further a human problem when the bullies and haters pile on, and snuff out a much needed agency that has been trying to pick up after the far too many losers that have created the mess.

porcupinequill

You make a lot of assumptions to justify your standpoint so allow me to educate you some more:
1. I don’t hate cats like you said. Polarizing someone as a cat hater because they don’t 100% agree with you is likely to end a productive conversation before it begins.

2. The law isn’t subjective like you said. As you may have noticed by now, no other animal agency/rescue within city limits uses a house located in a residential area for the sole purpose of running their operation. The humane society and Animal Shelter are both in industrial zoned areas which is where this organization also has to move.

The only reason this situation wasn’t dealt with sooner is because no one wanted to deal with the harassment that would come with it. So I’ll say it again with different wording this time in hopes of getting a point across, continue with the name calling and irrational thought process only if you’re OK with taking blame for a lack of external support. Personally, I don’t see the value in that so I’m recommending a rationale process as you move forward.

Know the difference!

biff

some of us have donated money, others time, and others both. ms ginn has given most of everything she has. you are a speck.

biff

we have found a common ground of agreement. kudos to your kind heart.

h2ofield

You as well.

Good work and good attitude Rowan! Keep focused on the end goal
