No excuse for the mess left behind after event at college

By Letter to the Editor on June 23, 2023.

Editor:

I am a regular user of the sports facilities of the Lethbridge College. On Friday, May 26, I enjoyed my regular visit and also witnessed the graduation ceremonies with all its hoopla.

On the following Monday, May 29 I returned and I was disappointed to see the entrance of the facility in a mess. I said to myself, not a good report card for our new graduates.

I complained to the office staff and they quickly assured me that it was not the doing of the graduation ceremonies.

Instead the facility had been rented out for a Pow Wow event on Saturday.

They also told me that a similar mess in the foyer and the gyms was found by early arriving staff on Monday morning. By the time I arrived at 10 a.m. that had been cleared up by additional staff.

I do not consider this responsible behaviour by the organizers of the event nor its participants.

Interesting. A suggestion would be to put the organization on notice that should this same situation occur in the future that they be required to find another venue. This is disrespectful behaviour that the College is well within its mandate to control.

Thanks to the herald for printing this. I have seen this myself. Hope they were charged a fee or did not receive their deposit back, like any other organization would or should for this lack of responsibility, for their behavior.

Punching below the belt, Klaus? This is dribble.

I suggest you leave your name and number with college and then you can be first in line to be responsible for cleaning up someone else’s mess. Take out an ad in the Herald and offer your services to clean up after others. No group should be irresponsible and disrespectful with public property.
