I don’t think there was much thought or research done by Kellan Scholten (Sept. 1 letter to the editor) regarding bike lanes for traversing to shop.I can’t imagine riding my bike to a business for a purchase such as a dresser, saddle piano or anything else that is not feasible to carry on a bike.
Possibly patronize a business for a coffee or a donut or something you don’t have to carry with one hand and try tor ride your bike with the other putting yourself in peril with safety issues? And those type of purchases don’t pay the overhead for the businesses. I can’t imagine anyone with mobility issues going to shop with a bicycle. And what of all the bike thefts that have increased recently in the city?
For a handful of road warriors monopolizing roadways, more bike lanes is not justified. But then again, the City could increase their revenue from the parking stalls by allowing three bikes in one metered parking stall and the increase of violations for expired parking. The only benefit to increased bike lanes is to the sellers of the bicycles.

Down with bikes! More internal combustion! We want freedom!!
And more apostrophes!!!!!
I’d settle for a well-placed comma. What the heck is a “saddle piano?”
Ever hear of delivery service for those “saddle pianos”. Unengaged persons walking with their head down buried in the latest trinket provided by the techno world are far more dangerous than anyone on a bike. Others strolling with the latest iPods stuck in their ears totally oblivious to their surroundings are basically just “prey”. I have considered getting a train horn for my cycle to awaken them from their “trance”. This letter is mostly sarcasm with a slight hint of reality. Maybe a backpack and a box of wine should be about as far as you could go😂
