Every business – whether you are a one person, home operation or a large conglomerate with 5,000 employees – needs to step back and see how what you are doing affects your family, all Albertans, Canadians and the World – yes, even the world.
I remember my university professors stating that growth in business was paramount – if you’re not increasing sales, you are falling back. I now feel that growth is important in the long run but a short period or introspection (internal review) is necessary for all businesses – especially the oil and gas industry.
A prime example is the Pathways Alliance of six major Alberta oil producing companies that together produce and sell 3.1 million barrels of oil per day in Alberta and generated a combined net profit of approximately 6.52 billion dollars in the first quarter of 2024.
This equates to approximately $26 billion over the course of 12 months.
The projected cost of the Alliance underwriting a joint venture carbon capture and sequestration is $19 billion, and yes, the six companies could have had the job done by now and it would have been business as usual for them without the pressure of the federal and provincial governments.
It’s time for the Alliance to look at their governance, social and environment policies together with their net profits and get the job done – for your family, all Albertans , Canadians and the world.
