Editor,
As a long-term and permanent resident of our Lethbridge community, I write this Letter to the Editor of The Lethbridge Herald to congratulate Mrs. Rachael Thomas, our Member of Parliament, for Lethbridge, Alberta, on her recent electoral victory.
I first met Ms. Harder (unmarried at the time) when she sought the leadership of the federal conservative party for Lethbridge and successfully won her candidacy against four other strong candidates. I am writing this letter of congratulations, and declared support, regardless of party affiliations.
Rather, this is a recognition of the skills and abilities of our Member of Parliament who has clearly chosen to serve our community, as I understand that our former Members of Parliaments also displayed commitments to this area of Canada.
Mr. Jim Hillyer was present at the Citizenship Ceremony when I became a Canadian Citizen. He said that “it was nice to see me again” after I swore my oath to allegiance to Canada. It was a special ceremony!
I also met our former Member of Parliament, Mr. Rick Casson, many times; the first time was in 1998 while I worked as a legislative assistant for the House of Commons.
I expect that Mrs. Thomas will serve as our Member of Parliament as long as she chooses. For that, I appreciate her commitment to this beautiful part of Canada that I moved to study at the University of Lethbridge in September 1993.
Congratulations again, Mrs. Thomas, and all the best to you and your family going forwards!

We concur with your comments and personal observations regarding our MP Rachael Thomas. We also stand firm in congratulating her in the election victory along with continued success representing us in parliament.
No “we” do NOT concur with your comments. Her “representing” us in parliament? Exactly what has she done apart from being non committal on the subject of “conversion therapy”, support for pancake breakfasts, her lack of commitment to any form of climate action and continuing whingeing against the opposition as per the Poilievre playbook?
A bonus would be if she actually accomplished anything that would help Lethbridge instead of warming her seat.
Once again we see Reformers being elected pretending they are conservatives by ignorant Canadians who don’t know the difference.
Yet once again they aren’t able to win a majority because of the lack of respect they show are children, grandchildren, doctors, nurses, teachers or students and the horrific financial mess they create for the future our children must face, and the idiots who support them don’t care.
As my conservative friends and relatives all state thank god we have easterners who are a lot smarter than Albertans and willing to support Liberals. Although we aren’t fans of Liberals they treat us a lot better than these Reformers ever have and they are why Alberta is in financial ruin and Alaska and Norway aren’t.
Well said.
Ms Thomas is an embarrassment and should never be trusted with anything. She supported the truckers at the blockade and, I believe, even brought them sandwiches. This is closer to terrorism than to leadership.
she is so very good at doing as she is told. wonderful obedience!
