Editor,
In case there were any doubts Alberta’s Premier was a science-denying demagogue with designs on the throne of Alberta, Danielle Smith’s startling televised speech to the public buried those doubts like a tank of pumped fracking fluid. We can assume our own UCP representative, Nathan Neudorf, is firm in his backing of her quest for the Queenship, hearing no objection from that quarter. One wonders if his own hopes for royal status rise as high as Duke, or if he’ll be satisfied with becoming an Earl or merely a Baron.
Her would-be majesty ignored the urgent warnings from our scientists, even though those warnings say the continued use of fossil fuels is destroying the livable biosphere and could well mean the end of human existence. She called for expanding fossil fuel use, with no controls, impediments, taxes or regulations. A cynic would check her investment portfolio.
Any hint of inconveniencing oil and gas companies would have to be met with, sorry, a referendum to leave Canada by her loyal subjects. In exchange they will get trillions and trillions of dollars. Even First Nations would get something, she promised, but only billions. Once we separate, we would naturally need a leader with a certain [ahem] royal presence.
No, dear minion, there’s no need to bow. Not yet.

By the way, has anyone heard anything what so ever from our Lethbridge West MLA, Rob Miyashiro other than him plastering his name on the sign to his supposed opened MLA office on 9th Street South!
