Editor,
First of all, I find it strange that this submission by Mr. Phil Burpee got the time of day from the Lethbridge Herald.
It would appear the Herald has no issue with publishing a misogynist maligning rant as long as its directed at the UCP. The rant even violates their own stated rules of submissions shall not be longer than 400 words (unless of course from a NDP VIP or a NDP supporter)?
Burpee implies the premier may need a “vet” for assistance, and I can assure you he did not mean veteran. This editor seems to be able to print a flag-waving NDP salute or a trashing of the UCP no matter how many disgusting and insulting words are used by the author.
Perhaps its time this new editor realizes that if he intends on banning the extreme right thought process, that the extreme left displayed by Burpee should be left in the trash, as well ! Burpee displays a lack of class and respect, but still gets the airtime. Why? Is it the subject matter?
I do not support every policy or proclamation made by the UCP. In fact I tend to end up blending parts of the UCP with policies of the NDP. Why? I am more centrist then either party. More Blue than UCP, yet not as Left as the NDP.
I am still old school, where you only gain respect by working hard and supporting your family.
Do I believe Alberta should be sending a ton of money to Ottawa to see it dedicated to the two other large economies because they control Canada’s elections? No. Do I think Premier Smith, in her own way, is sending the correct message? Yes. Is there a more diplomatic way? Maybe. Does that make her wrong? No.
I could go on and on but would violate the 400-word submission for Conservative Supporters.

New editor’s note: The Phil Burpee piece referenced in this letter was, indeed, over the Herald’s suggested word-count limit for letters to the editor. It was meant to run as a guest column, not a letter. The mistake was entirely the Herald’s, not Mr. Burpee’s.

If Smith and the UCP weren’t so corrupt or pass so many controversial bills there would be less to write about and less airtime. Somehow I don’t see that happening so either get used to it or pay less attention to it. Now how about that health care scandal?
You have nailed it. It’s no secret that these Reformers are hellbent on destroying everything former conservative governments have created for the good of the people. They aren’t interested in helping anyone other than themselves and the rich.
Get the excuse from the editor of the Herald. Compose a 1500 word missive Dennis and let’s see if you can be listed as a guest columnist. I received an email from the Herald, as I took to shut your mouth, we know who you are. Never in the history of my comments have I ever been sent an email “confirming my comment”. Shocking to think how far down the lane this has gone. PS. You are correct Dennis.
Just as stupid as ever aren’t you?
Fedup “Yes you are!”
oh, god…i know you are, but what am i? twinkle, twinkle, little star, what you say is what you are….might the little kid’s piano that can plunk that out have more depth than ye?
Why wouldn’t they when most of them are true conservatives trying to put a stop to these Reformers hellbent on destroying our children and grandchildren’s future. Maybe Dennis needs to wake up.
Can he explain where he thinks they are going to find these billions of dollars to pay for this massive debts these Reformers have created?
This guy is so stupid he believes the lie that Ottawa is treating us badly yet lawyers, accountants, oil executives, oilmen, bankers, economists, and former conservatives don’t agree.
Dennis you are totally correct regarding the political slant of the editor regarding submissions they publish. I am aware of at least two “former” contributors who were/are barred from having their submissions published.
You mean the fella that went by the handle ‘old school’ and his racist tirade?
It’s one of the attributes of totalitarian opinion that never ceases to amaze me: there is only one legitimate viewpoint – theirs; that they believe themselves ‘moderate’; and that they are always somehow victims, despite their bullying behaviour.
I believe The Herald does a good job on providing a forum for local opinion – the litmus test: we all get to read things that push our buttons.
