Canada’s strength lies in remaining united as a nation

By Lethbridge Herald on May 30, 2025.

Editor,

As a proud Canadian, I truly believe that our identity is all about coming together as a nation, prioritizing Canada over any provincial loyalties.

I cannot, nor will I ever, support a small group that pushes for division and conflict, trying to deliberately create divides within our province based on misguided principles and selfish ideals.

Remember how Quebec was mocked for wanting to separate two decades ago? We should take that lesson to heart. Instead of positioning our government against Ontario’s, let’s focus on strengthening our relationships with the rest of Canada. Yes, there’s a rest of Canada that these group keeps forgetting. It’s our connection with the other nine provinces, that gives us our true identity.

We should be reflecting on the selflessness shown by volunteers from across the nation (that’s where those other provinces come into play) who came to Alberta’s aid last year during the devastating wildfires. They exemplified the spirit of unity that binds us as Canadians. Consider the excitement we all share in rooting for Alberta’s hockey team like its team Canada all over again. Or celebrating the achievements of all Canadians at the Olympics (not just the ones from Alberta) —these moments are a testament to our collective pride.

And this pride Is being forgotten, and sidelined for selfishness. If each province were to pursue its own isolated objectives, we would jeopardize the integrity of Canada itself. We must champion our Canadian identity above all else, for it is this unity that fortifies us.

We are all Canadians, and it’s crucial that we reaffirm our dedication to our national identity. While I wholeheartedly encourage everyone to stand up for what they believe in and fight for their convictions, it’s essential that we do not redefine the very unity that holds us together in the process.

Our strength lies in our ability to advocate for our ideals while remaining united as one nation.

I am Canadian first.

Canada as a nation has a chance to underline what the writer has stated. Yet, no sooner had the king departed these shores that Blanchette moaned about a “foreign king” and his province could well elect another “separatist” provincial government. Meanwhile out west , Smith et al fan the flames of a referendum the results of which could easily trump 30% in favour of sovereignty within Canada or becoming part of the US.
Saskatchewan though not a separatistic province (yet), is demanding concessions, both AB and Saskatchewan are demanding of a demise of the “cap”. Nary a mention of environmental and climate responsibilities.
The chance is there , but I am afraid fractures are appearing already and the old damage has not healed in what should be an easy fix.
All this whilst the autocratic dick head posing as a democratic president, rumbles along defying his courts and lying left right and centre.

It really is amazing how stupid people are, especially Albertans. The American oilmen that I was involved with called us the dumbest people on the planet for good reason. They knew what Klein was doing would put us in financial trouble and it certainly did. The fools that continue to support these Reformers have made it even worse.
A senior in Calgary told me he didn’t like wildfire smoke it really bothered him, and he thought the Alberta Government should sue the B.C. Government for allowing it to drift into Alberta. I was shocked when I realized the guy was serious, thats how stupid he was.

alberta is mostly a one dimensional economy – oil and gas. lumber and ag, yes, but those are not so much what has greased the wheel here – as witness when oil demand/price is low – and those are not what have made the crafty-grafty cabal in-crowd so very wealthy over the many decades.
thus, a separate alberta in a time when oil and gas are ever less needed is going to be a rather impoverished alberta. oh, wait, they will have coal mining operations making everyone rich and toasty warm in the light, and, you bet – their pension plan ensuring wealth and prosperity for all.

Like the 10 cent a ton Royalty from China they were getting for our coal that the Social Credit Party stuck Albertans with that got them kicked out and the Conservatives elected. Farmers who were paying $27 a ton for coal were furious.
