I am writing this because I am disappointed with the actions of the drivers on Whoop-Up Drive (Sunday) tonight. A young lady hit a deer on the east-bound lane which I then ran over. I had no time to react. She pulled off to the side of the road and put her hazard lights on. I went past her and had to double back to render any assistance. Thank God she was OK when I came back. I am disappointed with the fact that no one stopped, except for one lady who thought she had working safety equipment to prevent further accidents.
But no one stopped, they continued to go on by at a high rate of speed. When you see multiple sets of hazard lights please slow down and move over!
There is a reason people have them on. Everyone is in such a rush these days.
It is not worth someone’s life for you to rush to wherever you are going. Please everyone take the time to be safe, because a life is worth more than the minute you gain because you feel the need to rush to get where you are going.
The life that you save might be yours!
Thank you.

First of all Michael, well done for being a good citizen, one with compassion who still cares for their fellow men/women. I applaud you!
You are taking your life in hand just exiting your vehicle on Whoop-up Drive, with many speeding to get home 2-3 seconds sooner, without any care for those around them, because it is a me me me and my special little group of me’s world. I am surprised they didn’t fly by honking their horns for the poor young lady to get out of the way!
Deer often are hit or sideswipe vehicles on Whoop-up and Bridge Drive, and sometimes even a porcupine has been hit on Whoop-up but many do not care, because they may arrive home a few seconds later.
In some cases I have been on US interstates which are safer and more respectful of other drivers, I say in some cases, but Whoop-up Drive is not an interstate or a racetrack. I would love to show you footage I have saved from the dashcams I have installed front and back of my vehicle, showing my speed which is about 10% over the limit to prevent many from tailgating me, and still I get tailgated, some within feet of my rear bumper. If I had to stop quick to avoid wild life, then they would be piled into the back me, but to them, they don’t care!
I am still considering sending the footage to police, but know police have more important crimes to investigate, but the nice thing about having it, is if they do pile into the back of me, it is all on video and they cannot deny tailgating. I have had to wait for 25 or 30 minutes some days when coming home from work because one of this impatient boneheads has caused and accident and Whoop-up Drive is a parking lot for traffic, so I sometimes think about that and think I should share the footage, but then there are the ones on their phones, not staying in their lanes who also cause wrecks.
I applaud your compassion, but please be safe when you jump out to assist others! You are no good to help them if you get injured! Even police vehicles have been sideswiped by careless drivers and police themselves hit, so be careful! Again, well done!
a well shared message, thanks for taking time to do so.
say what, also a fine entry – it is great to be able to entirely agree with your outlook on this important subject. speeding and distracted driving, whether it be the phone or a need to stare at a passenger whilst driving, are hazards to others and to wildlife. it sucks that so many act without care. indeed, selfishness seems to be on the rise.
we would do well to knock 10 km/h off the speed limits in town all the way around.
When you have Reformers pretending they are conservatives and destroying Photo Radar to try to buy votes speed is what you will get. Police Officers in Edmonton have seen a huge increase in speed since these morons brought in less photo radar and destroyed jobs.
Geez Allan give it a rest with the Reformer mantra.
photo radar should never have been – in effect it ticketed and penalised the owner of a car for speeding/running lights, and not the driver. more traffic enforcement folks to ensure traffic enforcement, such that demerits and the driver is licenced, registered and insured.
