Poilievre is making demands in a riding where he doesn’t live

By Lethbridge Herald on July 25, 2025.

Editor,

Pierre Poilevre is complaining aboutall the other candidates running against him in Battle River Crowfoot but I find it hard to sympathize.

I mean, here’s a guy who’s a nationally recognizable name, someone who’s been in politics since he was in short pants, the leader of the second ranked party in the whole country and he’s concerned that voters in a by-election are going to get confused and put an X beside some other name on the ballot?

At best, it betrays a bit of a lack of self confidence. But I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe there will be voters who give up somewhere around the “M”s on the day and either vote for Marty Mackelsnorker or just walk away, not bothering to vote at all.

So, the once and future candidate is whining, asking the feds to make it harder to get on the ballot, not to allow ‘illegitimate” candidates to even run.

Okay, but if we’re going down that road let’s take it the next logical step . Let’s demand that anyone running in a federal election has to be a certified, bona fide resident of the electoral riding in which they are a candidate. That’d cut down the number of long ballot candidates.

Whatever other problems it would present Poilevrei in getting back into the House of Commons is his problem. He can deal with it.

Singh lives in Ontario but ran in Burnaby. No problem then big union man.

Did you notice that Ontario is where Parliament is and all MPs from all over Canada live there even the ones who were elected in Alberta. I guess you can’t change being stupid can you?

come on – you are fooling yourself. ottawa is the place of “work”, not residence.

Fedup Conservative

Why then do they have two residents? We have know Mike Lake from Devon since he was in grade two with our daughter in 1978 and he has been an MP since 2006 in Edmonton.

I like seeing the enthusiam for democracy. It’s too bad there are those vying for a one-party system.

Hmmm … One party, white christian nationalism, scapegoating the Other, fawning over power … what might that be called?

Fedup Conservative

Ken certainly has it right.
People from Ottawa told us they kicked him out because of his arrogant stupidity and we will be idiots if we give him another chance. They don’t want to see it, and we don’t blame them.
Their young children were terrified by the horns blowing all night and they were forced to go to work without any sleep. When they confronted him about praising these Criminals, Convoy Truckers, he told them that they were his heroes and he was proud to buy them coffee and donuts. In other words he didn’t give a damn about their well being.
What upset them the most was the lack of concern he showed towards the $6 billion Economic loss to Canadians that they created proving there was nothing conservative about him.
Like his pal Danielle Smith wasting $75 million on cold medicine for children, $7 million on trying to get Poilievre re-elected, several $250,000. trips to visit Trump and his Right-wing extremists friends and what has the destruction of the protection Lougheed put on our mountains cost us, and health care scandal, she doesn’t give a damn about wasting our money either proving that there is nothing Conservative about her either.
These Rural Albertans will be fools if they ever elect either one of these Reformers ever again. There is certainly nothing Conservative about them, is there?

Please don’t hurt yourselves after falling to the floor in a fit of laughter but I’m hoping this loser actually loses this one more time.

the idea that representatives for ridings, provincially and nationally, do not have to live in their riding, is yet another of the farces of our demockeracy. in fact, not only should these puppet clowns live in the riding they run – not just own property or have rental there – they should have had to live there as primary residence for a reasonable period before being eligible to run there (perhaps a min of 2 years). however, given how these bobbleheads only do as they are told by their central offices, the fact of the matter is they are entirely redundant. all we need are some reasonably nearby offices with far less wastefully paid employees to carry out the management of queries and concerns. so very many other aspects of system are awry, and this is just one example of how cynical and corrupted to where our democracy has devolved.
